Year 1999 was best year of Sanjay dutt's career as his all films become boxoffice cult Hit.and, most importantly, the Award winning Vaastav,The reality, for which he won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award.1999 was seen as Sanjay dutt comeback year as he started the year off by starring in the Mahesh Bhatt directed hit Kartoos along with Khoobsorat, safari,Daag,the fire and Hasena maan jaegi.

In 2000's Mission Kashmir  His role won him high critical acclaim and a number of awards and nominations, as did his subsequent performance in Kurukshetra.The same year he had hits such as chal mere bhai and jung. News channel NDTV named him Indian of the Year in 2006.In 2007 he received an award from the prime minister Manmohan singh for his work in the Munna bhai series. In January 2008,Indian film institute Filmfare listed 14 movies featuring Dutt in its top 100 grossing movies of all time list.
